The Paper is Not the End
I am much more comfortable on paper. I am free when I'm writing. I can think things out without the fear of consequence taking over. My loyalty to the story overrides everything. There is no ego when I write. It feels safe when it's just me, the pen, and the parchment. It's always been this way. I can write things I haven't said out loud yet and once that's done, the power to speak it eventually comes. It may take years but it always comes.
The thing about this digital age is that people assume that all writing is "Twitter fingers." That's extremely naive. Some of us can back up what we wrote. We can stand by it, even if our legs shake. Sometimes that's a shock to folks. Because I am just as smart in real life as I am on paper. I'm just as witty and confident. I'm not just a beast at writing. I'm a beast period. I come alive on paper and I ain't dead yet.
